Wildly Beautiful Dreams Wall Hanging
This delightful wall hanging features the phrase, "Where dreams grow wild and beautiful and free." In its idyllic setting, elephants, monkeys, and birds enjoy being in and under a lovely flowering tree.
This wall hanging was handmade by artisans at St. Mary's Mahila Shikshan Kendra in Ahmedabad, India. St. Mary's was started by Dominican nuns who had come to the city to open a hospital. When the city's textile mills closed about 40 years ago, many women were forced to support their families. The nuns opened a sewing and embroidery center where Hindu, Muslim, and Christian women made beautiful creations. The nuns teach a two-year course in embroidery and sewing, and graduates may work in the center. The women are paid fairly for their work, health care is available, and the nuns ensure the women send their children to school to help prevent child labor. The profits of the center are shared amongst the center's 350 workers.
It is made of cotton, has a rod for hanging, and measures 39"x39". The rod in the photo is not included. Fair trade certified.
