Calm Waters Wind Chime

Filipino artisans working with SAFY, Inc. created this beautiful, soothing wind chime from bamboo, capiz, and nylon string. Capiz is a province in the Philippines known for producing oyster shells used in decorative products like this wind chime, but also in windows and doors. Capiz is home to the coral Santa Monica Church, which boasts the largest Catholic Church bell in Asia.

SAFY, Inc. stands for Social Action for Filipino Youth. It was founded in 1966 by Belgian nun Sister Juliaan Mullie to aid impoverished women and youth in creating income sources. Artisans have access to education seminars, vocational training, and financial and medical assistance. SAFY is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. It provides marketing and export services to over 70 artisan workshops, resulting in employment for over 1,000 people.
